4753. Shmuel Yoseph AGNON – (1888?1970) Major Israeli novelist, born in Buczacz, Poland. He went to Palestine in 1907. He wrote in Hebrew an epic trilogy of novels on Eastern Jewry in the early 20th century . In 1966 he became the first Israeli to receive the Nobel Prize for Literature.
