3823 axes

3823. Two types of fenestrated battle-axes, piercing weapons that could penetrate helmets and armor. The first is the so-called Eye-axe because of the prominence of its two holes which look like hollow eyes. Second is the elongated form, the so-called duck-bill axe, an even more effective piercing weapon. This is the type of battle-axe that Abraham could have carried when he rescued Lot from the invaders of Palestine. Provenance: Syria or Palestine, early 2nd millennium ‘Thou art my battle axe and weapons of war; for with thee will I break in pieces the nations’ Jeremiah 51:20
