4956 (40) Red Chalcedony Cylinder Seal, Northern Mesopotamia: Middle Assyrian period, ca. 1300-1200 B.C. The winged nude goddess pictured in this seal as ‘mistress of animals’ may be related to the weather god, in particular, his wife, Shala. ‘All ye beasts of the field, come to devour, year, all ye beasts in the forest. His watchmen are… all ignorant…’ Isaiah 56:9-10.
