4955 (29) Serpentine Cylinder Seal, Mesopotamia: late Akkadian period, ca. ?2254-2154 B.C Struggle between animal and mythological combatants: a lion bites the throat of a water buffalo while a second lion struggles with a frontally facing bull-man. To the right, a frontal nude hero struggles with a second water buffalo. ‘…for the dark places of the earth are full of the habitations of cruelty’. Psalm 74:20.
